The Union Cabinet, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) scheme, marking a significant leap toward enhancing access to international high-impact scholarly research. This initiative aligns with Viksit Bharat @ 2047, National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).
Key Highlights of One Nation One Subscription
- Purpose of the Scheme:
- Provide universal access to international high-impact scholarly research articles and journal publications for students, faculty, and researchers across all higher education institutions and central government R&D institutions in India.
- Budget Allocation:
- ₹6,000 crore has been allocated for a three-year period (2025-2027).
- Coverage:
- More than 6,300 government higher education institutions and central government R&D institutions will benefit from this initiative.
- Approximately 1.8 crore students, faculty, researchers, and scientists across all disciplines will have access.
- Number of Publishers and Journals:
- Includes 30 major international journal publishers, offering access to 13,000 e-journals.
- Access and Administration:
- The initiative will be managed by INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network), an autonomous UGC center.
